Decaying Refuge at Eastern Washington University
1993 Bachelor of Fine Arts show at E.W.U., Cheney, Washington. Walking through my parents' property in a northern wooded area of Spokane, I found some old bones, I think from a cow. I collected the bones and they made their way into my work. I was fascinated with the archaeology of it all. I reimagined scenes; one from a neighbor that used to camp in his friend's backyard, the other from digging up the old bones and an imaginary mountain. I created a shelter for my refuge, bundled branches into a bouquet, and added decaying bones and relics. Materials included: clay, canvas, oil paint, wire, wood, wax, bones, and handmade paper.
